The Chosen Devotional Day 11: Proclaim

"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has anointed me to proclaim the good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.-" Luke 4:18-19
  • Which of Jesus' character qualities most stand out to you in this story?
The character quality that stands out the most to me is His role as the bearer of the Good News. Unless men hear and understand the Good News of God's kingdom, it is hard to be free from bondage (spiritual).
  • Why do you think Jesus began His three years of ministry with this particular public display in His hometown?
After Jesus read the Scripture that contains the prophecy concerning Himself, He spoke a few words to the people who were present, and they were not happy. In fact, they drove Him out of the synagogue and even tried to throw Him off the cliff. The place where this particular scenario will happen was already ordained. But I also believe, that the town of Nazareth where Jesus grew up, metaphorically represents the Jews. The Good News was meant for them to hear. Yet, His brethren rejected Him as the Messiah. Because of that, the Good News was preached to the gentiles and was received.
  • What are ways you can display the same love for those Jesus came for as the prophecies indicate?
Love hard. Love those who persecute me. Love those who don't like me. I cannot do this by myself. I need the Holy Spirit to help me. When these people will see how love they are even after what they did, their hearts will change.
